Jill Rouleau: Ansible Everything!

Description:
Ansible is an IT automation tool designed for simplicity and ease of
use. This talk will cover what that means, how it works, and what you
can do with Ansible.

About Jill:
Jill is a long time member of the Free Software community, serving on
the PLUG steering committee and as BoF organizer for the Southern
California Linux Expo (SCaLE). They are a member of the Ansible core
development team at Red Hat, focused on AWS and other Cloud modules.


der.hans: GNU/Linux tuning for MongoDB

Description:
MongoDB is a popular document-oriented database.

Like most databases, MongoDB benefits from particular GNU/Linux system tuning.

While GNU/Linux distributions and container distributions create good default configurations, they need some changes to get optimal performance for your database needs.

Attendees will learn about the following for MongoDB:

* Linux kernel tuning
* memory tuning
* block device tuning
* filesystem tuning
* network tuning

About der.hans:
der.hans is a Free Software, technology and entrepreneurial veteran. He is a repeat author for the Linux Journal with his article about online privacy and security using a password manager as the cover article for the January 2017 issue.

He's chairman of the Phoenix Linux User Group (PLUG), BoF organizer for the Southern California Linux Expo (SCaLE), and founder of the Free Software Stammtisch and Stammtisch Job Nights.

Currently a Customer Data Engineer at Object Rocket. Most likely anything he says publicly was not approved by $dayjob.

He often presents at large community-led conferences (SCaLE, SeaGL, LFNW, Tübix) and many local groups.

It's December and time for our annual end of year pot luck.

Bring friends and family!!

It's a pot luck, so bring some food or drinks to share if you can. It's a holiday party, meaning we'll likely have tons of snacks and deserts. This presents an opportunity to bring a main course, salad or veggie side dish. Or, cupcakes or pie if you prefer :).

If you can't bring food, please still show up.

The meeting is in out regular location at The Desert Breeze Substation.

Since we're eating for the party, we will not go out to a restaurant afterwards.

No alcohol.

As always, we're on the 2nd Thursday of the month.

Also join us at our Linux/Free Software Stammtisch on the following Tuesday (Dec 17th) at 7pm. If you're looking for help with your resume; at next month's Stammtisch we will have a resume review night starting at 6pm.

The PLUG Security Meeting that would normally occur the week after the Holiday Party is canceled due to it happening too close to Christmas, but join us in January for a fresh new security meeting.

Sebastian Tuchband: How B.A.T.M.A.N. Advanced Networking!

Description:
B.A.T.M.A.N. advanced is a decentralized mesh networking protocol that has existed with the Linux kernel for a while, now.
The presentation is on what is being done with it in reality, the ups, downs, and usage demos.

About Sebastian:
A systems engineer that has been working with Linux to create decentralized mesh networks for the city of Phoenix with the Arizona Blockchain Initiative.

Sebastian Tuchband: Hiding From the Internet

Description:
An updated version of my Hiding From the Internet presentation to fit the changes to privacy, today.
It will include an explanation for where data brokers obtain data, how to prevent non-government officials from easily obtaining PII, and some tools to use to maintain privacy.

Austin Godber: Stream Processing with Python and Kafka

Description:
A quick intro to Kafka, a distributed log system, and how to interact with it using Python.
