Topic: etckeeper - putting /etc/ into revision control

Abstract: Ever debug a problem for hours just to discover it was a new
typo in a configuration file? Ever have someone (maybe you) bork a conf
file and not realize it for days? Put /etc/ into revision control and
track what changes and when.

etckeeper uses the revision control system of your choice to track changes
in /etc/. It ties into package management systems for automagic checkins
after updates. It also tracks metadata such as permissions and ownership
that revision control systems usually do not track.
