Steve Litt: Beginning and Intermediate Inkscape

Online meeting at https://meet.jit.si/phoenixlug
To stick to the 2 hour maximum, meeting will begin precisely at 7pm Mountain time, so please get there early to make sure your microphone works. This presentation will be fast paced.

For most people in most situations, by far the best tools for creating graphics are vector graphics editors. In the world of Linux, the most widely used full-featured vector graphics editor is Inkscape. Inkscape has the additional benefit of creating files in the standardized and widely used SVG (Scaleable Vector Graphics) format, so your graphics can be used directly in websites and/or eBooks, or converted to other formats.

In this presentation Steve will explain Inkscape fundamentals and then walk through the creation of a book cover graphic

Steve will also briefly demonstrate creation of block diagrams.

Among the topics to be emphasized and quickly demonstrated will be:

  • Templates
  • Node editing
  • Arrows
  • Text
  • Alignment and distribution
  • Colors
  • Block diagrams
  • Gradients
About Steve:
Steve was a contributing author in Red Hat Linux 6 Unleashed and the main author of Samba Unleashed. He co-founded Linux Enthusiasts and Professionals in Orlando, and founded Greater Orlando Linux User Group. Steve has authored several pieces of Free Software, including the widely used VimOutliner.
