By the end, you should have a better feeling for the power that kdenlive has and feel more comfortable diving into some more advanced features on your own videos.

Larry Theil:
Full Circle Magazine with a focus on their speciality issues.

Bio: Rashid is a data geek, a developer and a recovering operations
addict.  He's currently a developer at Elasticsearch. However, he spent the last 10 years in operations writing tools to make his life
easier. Every now and then one of those tools is useful enough that he should publish it.

Kibana is the thing he wrote to get around the fact that he couldn't
afford exorbitantly expensive commercial log analysis. he originally wrote
it to work with a fantastic log pipeline called Logstash, which stores
events in Elasticsearch.

Abstract: Rashid will talk about patterns for log shipping, the problems
in traditional centralized log storage, as well as issues with syslog shipping overall. We'll explore the options in the open source space, and define a stack that can be gradually merged into a legacy syslog network, with further optimizations as we later spin down the legacy redundant logging infrastructure.

The topic for this months meeting will be on Subsurface presented by Larry Thiel.

This months presentation will be on Samba and given by Walter Mack

Presentation description:

Samba is a tried-and-true program to share disks and printers on a network that connects both, Windows, and Linux PCs.  This presentation will give an introduction on how to set up shared printers and shared drives. The presentation will include a specific example in an Ubuntu environment.

Bio:

Walter Mack is a software development consultant, writing software primarily for Linux platforms. He lives in the Phoneix area.

We have 2 topics for this months:

Topic: Good Password Verification

Abstract: A customer's perspective on password verification. Just because the cloud claims your data is encrypted and password protected doesn't mean it really is.

Companies should publicly disclose their password encryption schemes to encourage auditing and customer trust.

The discussion will cover why password verification should be quick to human perception, but take effort from the computer's perspective. It will also cover better encryption for SSH private keys as a specific case.

Bio: der.hans is the Chairman of PLUG ( Phoenix Linux User Group ) and

founder of the Free Software Stammtisch. He is a repeat speaker for SCaLE and for many tech groups and conferences in the Phoenix area and has been published in the Linux Journal. He also gets paid as a DBA for Limelight Networks and moonlights as an adjunct instructor at Mesa Community College.

Topic: Dealing With PDFs

Abstract: Editing PDFs with various programs.  What are their limitations, and how to get around them.  What program to use for you intended purpose.

Bio: Brian Cluff is on the steering committee for the Phoenix Linux Uses Group.  He has been been working with Linux since 1995 when we have asked to help setup and ISP with 2 of his friends.  Over the past year he has been giving a monthly presentation at PLUG on various multimedia applications.  He is currently doing contract work when it sounds like fun.

PLUG will be meeting at 7pm it's NEW home.
