PLUG

PLUG has been a great community resource for more than 25 years. We want
that to continue being the case throughout the shutdown. #FlattenTheCurve

PLUG is a volunteer run group. Everything we do is because volunteers have
stepped forward to do the work for the activity.

Tonight, at 19:00, we're having an open organization meeting to all who want to
productively help PLUG continue to be an excellent community resource.

Attending is not a promise to volunteer. It's promise to be interested in
helping PLUG be a resource for the community and hopefully consideration
of volunteering.

Good news is that we already likely have some extra participation coming
in. We can also be open to more people as it will be easier to
participate. Hopefully we'll even get some out of state PLUGgers to
partcipate more :).

We have already planned a general meeting with the theme of tech careers
for Thursday. There is also job networking and Free Software Stammtisch
two weeks from tonight.

Beyond those events, we need some volunteer assistance to keep things running.

We also want feedback

We have an agenda in etherpad.

The meeting will be using a hosted jitsi ( Free Software video
conferencing ) account.

We have some backup options should there be an option. Keep an eye on the
list and the IRC channel.

You can chat during the meeting via etherpad or our IRC channel.

Typical Presentation Setup

Typical Presentation Setup

Thank you for offering your presentation to PLUG.

Our meetings at the Chandler Police Desert Breeze Substation located at 251 N Desert Breeze Blvd, Chandler, AZ 85226. The meeting starts at 7PM but feel free to come early, someone is usually there by 6PM.

The facilities include a lectern, wireless internet, projector with a resolution of 1920x1080 (1080p). Please show up early if possible to test your computer out on the projector epectially if you have never connected to it before.

The projector has a VGA connector and we have converters for full size HDMI and full size DVI.

We expect that you will be using your own laptop unless other arrangements have been made.

Please let us know as soon as possible if anything comes up that would prevent you from presenting on the selected date so that we can make other arrangements and corrections to our advertisements for the meeting.

Only used for internal purposes, never given out
ex. What is your Linux/FOSS background, Your hobbies and interests.. etc...etc... Please write your biography as if we were writing about you (3rd person)
Our meetings take place the 2nd Thursday of each month for the general meeting and 3rd Thursday of each month for the security meeting

Tips for helping us get the best quality video:

  • Don't wear a green shirt or has a design that contains green on it. We use a green screen so that we can replace the background and create the best video that we can.
  • Try to stay behind the lectern when presenting. The video will be shot relatively tight on you so If you wander around you will be walking off camera.
  • Don't directly point to the physical screen, instead use your mouse. By using your mouse, both the audience and the people at home will know what you are pointing at and you won't be walking off camera.
  • Don't walk in front of the lights. The lights are there to make sure we have even lighting of the presenter. If you walk in front of them, you become a silhouette of yourself because of the bright back lighting.
  • Unfortunately the light needs to be fairly bright in order to be effective. Give yourself a few seconds for your eyes to become adjusted to the light. If the lights are still way to bright or too far into your direct line of sight then please let us know before you start your presentation so that we can adjust them. We would like you to be as comfortable as possible.

PLUG uses email to communicate with those people who choose to be included in the various discussions.

The way email lists work, is once you have subscribed to a list, you then receive any emails that are sent to the email list, by your or anyone else subscribed.

Email lists are a very important method used to communicate within the group. Conversations, discussions, news and assistance are available in the various email lists.

If you are new to PLUG or Free Software we suggest you join the plug-discuss list.

Please feel free to sign up to any email list that may interest you.

As a courtesy to those uninterested, please do not cross-post items to several lists. That's why we have more than one list.

PLUG archives all messages for viewing on the web. This includes any posts you might make.

The posts are archived for posterity and available to anyone else wanting to read them.

You are able to access the archive for the individual mailing list via a link on the same page that provides for subscription maintenance above.

Announcement List (Subscribe, Unsubscribe or View Archive)

This is an extremely low traffic mailing list.  It is simply used to send out various PLUG related announcements.  If you only want announcements subscribe to this list.  Skip this mailing list if you subscribe to any of our other mailing list as this list also sends to all our other mailing lists.

Discussion List (Subscribe, Unsubscribe or View Archive)

This mailing list is for general discussion, usually talk about GNU/Linux stuff. It is by far the most used list and a major communication channel for the PLUG community. You can usually expect between 5-20 emails per day from this list, more when intense (and sometimes not relevant to GNU/Linux) discussions take place.

Problems:

The web page for each list enables you to subscribe, unsubscribe, change options or to receive a password reminder.

If you have any problems with subscribing or unsubscribing please send mail via the contact us link on this website. Please do not send "unsubscribe" or other administrative requests to the list; you'll only annoy the other subscribers, who have no way of changing your account.
