Um, stupid question here, but what network clients do you have loaded
on the windows (which version?) machine you're using to try and access
the samba server? I ask because I see the words "tree request" which
makes one think it might be a novell client32 message. Samba is
essentially fake microsoft networking and novell clients or microsoft
clients for novell will see nothing of samba.

And to take this in an entirely different direction since, again, I'm
seeing the word "tree", have you looked into NDS for Linux?  For that
matter has anyone else?
