I found qmail to be difficult to configure and I've heard the same report from others. SendMail is the standard however I think most would say it is difficult to configure and maintain. I've heard that http://www.postfix.com/ is a good MTA. There is a tutorial on http://www.mandrakecampus.com/ that will explain it. I have not tried to install PostFix as of yet, but plan to soon. I'm sure there are those who are more experienced that can shed some light on this issue.
