redhat packages uw imap and within the package, imap, imaps, ipop2,
ipop3 are all installed. I might imagine SUSE doing much the same thing. 

if you have xinetd - configure /etc/xinetd.d/imaps to disable = no then
restart xinetd

if you are using inetd then edit /etc/inetd.conf - 'uncomment' imaps and
restart inetd
