This isn't specific to OpenLDAP but it might be helpful http://www.onlamp. com/pub/a/onlamp/2001/08/16/ldap.html. Overall LDAP is one of those things that is really simple at its core but is severely hurt by its lineage in X.500 and the unfortunate use of terminology that resulted from that. There are also several books out that cover LDAP and associated protocols. Netscape also should have a lot of LDAP information available and since Netscape Directory Server and OpenLDAP both developed from the University of Michigan LDAP server the concepts are very similar. This is especially true for NS Directory server prior to version 3 so many of the older articles in this area can be applicable. I used to do a lot of work with LDAP including OpenLDAP and people always seem to have a much more difficult time with it then the technology really warrants.
