I don't know about "best practice", but I have two anecdotes that
suggest adding a 2nd CPU later isn't a problem.  My PII/350 got a 2nd
CPU recently and is extremely happy.  I also added a 2nd CPU to a
PIII/1GHz box at work without incident.
