I'm not sure about market feasibility of such a venture in Phoenix, but some friends and myself had talked about doing something such as the "internet cafe/lan part gig" as well. I'm not sure something like that could turn a decent profit (if at all) without appealing (stooping?) to the general herds of the aol-ish user type audience. It's an interesting idea, but unless you could compete with pricewatch.com kind of pricing, or at least offer a certain level of convenience/selection on site to offshoot the difference, I don't think most of us geeks would buy into it. I know a lot of us in the tech field would often go to this place called Dave and Busters back in Cali, basically a Gameworks-type of place, with a full service bar in the middle of a huge arcade, with a nice resturant as well. We'd go there often and just geek out, eat, drink, and play video games. I'll bet you do something like that and throw in a grip of 100base ports (wireless?) for lan gaming (BYOBoxen) and you could draw a decent geek gathering. Having a hardware store near the bar might do well for sales and impulse buying as well. >=) I'd be interested to hear what you have in mind though and possibly help out as I personally would like something cool like that to perhaps hang out at. -mbutash -----Original Message----- From: plug-discuss-admin@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us [mailto:plug-discuss-admin@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us]On Behalf Of Codie William Masters Sent: Sunday, February 10, 2002 1:29 PM To: plug-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us Subject: Re: Linux Computer Store! Love the idea. A friend of mine in Austin just started a similar venture focusing around a internet cafe\lan party gig. It's seems to be working out well for him and I suppose it would work out great here. Also, I'd be willing to help out. ________________________________________________ See http://PLUG.phoenix.az.us/navigator-mail.shtml if your mail doesn't post to the list quickly and you use Netscape to write mail.
