The i686 disk has install stages 1-3 on the disk, they must be refering to the fact that if you build and compile starting from stage1 you can have a working system on any i386+ while stage3 has everything precompiled but only supports i686+. The last version I needed to install from was 1.1, which only included a i386 kernel to install from, I can't see how they'd some how muck install kernels for two diff architectures onto one cd (not to mention I doubt the el torito boodable cd standardworks on sparc machines). -Kyle On Tue, Jun 18, 2002 at 09:38:56AM -0700, slr wrote: > good morning plug, > > question for you guys familiar with gentoo. i > noticed they sell a SPARC version, but i also noticed this statement: > > SPARC CDs for $3.75 USD apiece, and donating 20% of their profits from Gentoo > sales to the Gentoo Linux project! :) Note that the i686 CD will allow a > build from scratch for *all* systems, but also has pre-built stuff for i686+ > CPUs. > > the Note states that the i686 will allow a build from scratch on *all* > systems, does that include the Ultra Sparc II? i want to try gentoo on my > Ultra 5, because i have to many stability issues with MDK 7.1 corp. server > and i dont like working with Solaris 8. so gentoo sounds like a great > alternative for bringing new life to an over priced desktop. > > slr > ________________________________________________ > See http://PLUG.phoenix.az.us/navigator-mail.shtml if your mail doesn't post to the list quickly and you use Netscape to write mail. > > PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us > http://lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss
