Freebird is a Lynard Skynard song.  FireBird is what rose out of the
ashes of Borland's Interbase.  It is crossplatform and rather
functional.

Also, there is SAP-DB which is more on par with Oracle and also, cross
platform, only it is under the GPL license and all of its management
tools under the LGPL.
