Bring up a terminal window and as root type "tail -f /var/logs/messages" then 
plug the camera in. If it's recognized you'll be able to create a drive 
shortcut on the KDE desktop for it. NOTE: I use Debian so my log files may be 
in a slightly different plaqce than yours.
