I forgot, what system are you running? "Unable to log in graphically." Can you start X once you do get logged in? "GUI modify user element will not load user info." Does this mean it doesn't display any information at all? The RedHat(8.0) User Manager has a preferences menu. Under that menu it has "Filter users and groups". On my system if that is checked most of the info gets hidden. I couldn't get 'mesg' and 'write' to work through terminal windows either. I was able to do without X running (booted to init 3). Bart -- I don't even know what I did but the GUI modify user element will not load user info now. First I corrected all the problems we were discussing through the week (only God knows how that was accomplished) and then I put a new user on. Then when I tried to talk to myself through my users I got the message that I didn;t have the appropriate permission to do that. I then Went into one terminal window with a 'mesg y' but when I attempted that with the other user it said I couldn't do that. So I rebooted in hopes that I could do it if I started the system as that user. But that did not help. Instead things got worse! Now It won't log me in graphicly (I can handle that) and it won't start KDE automatically either. But what I can't handle is is the reason for this mailing (user elemnt thingy). I just thought to myself that i would type that it seems as if I will have to bring the box to the next PLUG meeting when I realized that I my new job won't allow for that to happen. Any ideas what i could do? --
