I'd be interested in a solution too. This happened to me back when KDE 3 came out. I upgraded to 3 and got those exact problems. I never did fix it, I didn't have time to figure it out, so I just started over from scratch and reinstalled everything. There's gotta be something easier. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Deepak Saxena" To: Sent: Thursday, February 27, 2003 9:36 AM Subject: Mandrake 9/X login problems | | I just upgraded my MDK8.0 system to MDK9.0 and everything seems to | have gone smoothly except for one slight snafu. I can't login into | my system through kdm. If I give it my login and password, the kdm | window goes away, I get a black screen, and then the login screen | immediately comes back. Running 'last' shows that I did actually login, | but for about 1 second. The interesting thing is that if I 'init 3' | and then just run startx, I am able to use X w/o any problems. These | login issues only happen when using my account, the superuser can login t | hrough kdm with no problems whatever. I've looked through various log | files and there does not seem to be usefull data anywhere. I've deleted | all .k* and .X* and .x* files from ~ to attempt a reset of my X | environemnt, but still no luck. Any ptrs appreciated. | | Tnx, | ~Deepak | | -- | Deepak Saxena - dsaxena@plexity.net | | How much do you value your freedom? Would you trade your freedom for some | illusion of security?
