How to determine which NIC driver to use...

if all else fails --

disassemble the machine, find the NIC, find the biggest chip on it, write
down all the letters and numbers... with a little practice you can tell
which are the part numbers and which are other stuff (like date codes)...

Then consult Google... a search like:

     (part-number)  driver linux

should turn up something.
