procmail hasn't had a problem with maildirs in *years*.  The key is to append 
a '/' to the end of the maildir mailbox name, e.g.

:0
* this is my rule
mymailbox/

where 'mymailbox' is a maildir looking like

mymailbox/cur
mymailbox/new
mymailbox/tmp
