Hi, all-

I have a PC (AMD) with an NVIDIA soundcard, running Mandrake Linux 8.2. 
I am using the proprietary NVIDIA driver. This has worked well for me 
until this morning. When I booted up this AM, two things happened which 
were out of the ordinary. The first was that the NVIDIA splash screen 
appeared, and stayed up for a short while before I got to my login 
screen. The second was that the KDE windowmanager took longer than usual 
to start. The third was that my desktop was tabula rasa, just a blue 
screen, nothing more. Alt+control+backspace did not fix. My IceWM 
desktop came up just fine. I rebooted, and KDE was back to functioning 
normally. A few minutes ago, I again logged in, and had the same problem 
with KDE and the blank blue screen. I have verified that the problem is 
not specific to my user profile.

What is going on here, and how can I fix it?
