Sounds like klogd is a little too verbose on the console.  You can 
adjust the verbosity to the console without effecting syslog by changing 
the following line in /etc/init.d/klogd.

from:  KLOGD=""
to:    KLOGD="-c 3 -2"

For more info on those args, take a look at the klogd man page.
