I generally leave them as modules. Really they should be builtin and the
kernel shouldn't be allowed to load modules.

I 2.6 or 3.0 is supposed to have a way to load modules, then flip a switch
that prevents loading any more modules until the box is rebooted.

That will be most cool :).
