You probably need a makefile. (Patches for pwc-8.11 for porting to NetBSD
provide a makefile.)

Have a look at the pwc-8.11/philips.txt file. It says: "You can build this
code either into your kernel, or as a module. I recommend the latter,
since it makes troubleshooting a lot easier."

Also, as far as I know, the pwc-811 is already included in various new
testing versions of Linux kernel source, like Linux 2.6.0-test3 and
2.4.23-pre2. You may want to try them.
