Anecdotal again, Maxtor 4GB (1997) got trashed within weeks of getting it. Ikebana-rebranded Seagate 40GB got trashed within less than a month (prob. a factory reject like most others sold through Ikebana). Have had an 8GB Fujitsu that never caused a problem. All others WD, no issues (1.2 GB through 40GB).
