Nothing in the 'wire' keeps the speeds down. It is the
regulation that requires the phone company to choke
the speed to 53kb/sec!! The temporary download speed
of up to 120kb/sec which I have had at one place I
have lived, lasted for over ten minutes, sometimes,
and DOES d/l at that speed till the switch kicks in.
This was usually late at night. Oh, and btw, the 'dsl'
check thingy, said that that line was too far for
dsl!!! Go figure!! I cried when I moved from that
place as the device on that line that choked it was
obviously bad. And yes, I did compute via time/file
size that IT truly did download that fast!! That much
data couldn't possibly been downloaded that fast
unless it did come in that fast and it was good data.
This was via a hayes accura 56k set to 234k max on the
settings.

Just fyi. OH, and I was using dunmon.. the dialup
networking monitor similiar to Kppp stats and the
graph showed a steady dl up there in the
'stratosphere' speeds!

Even here, kppp stats shows a two or three second
'bump' in speeds, till the limiter kicks in.

Qworst isn't about to cut their own throats..they want
you to sub to dsl!! So complaining gets the 'cold shoulder'!!!
