Certainly no problem with that plan. The only advantage I can see to MythTV is the ability to do a lot more with the box. Weather updates, News feeds, DVD player/ripper, silly games, image gallery viewer, music player, etc... I am thinking more along the lines of a box to combine the functions of Tivo, Linksys Media Gateway, Living room PC, MP3 jukebox, DVD burner, etc. I was planning to add all of those to my living room A/V stack. So, I thought, why not combine them all into a single box, with the added flexibility of open-source software, so I can tweak it as desired. Of course, the REAL reason is just to have a new geek project to play with. ;-) If I was serious about getting PVR going quickly with my DirecTV service, I would buy the box from DirecTV. Ah, the best part... you get a lovable linux box in your living room EITHER WAY. :-) ...Kevin On Tue, 2003-11-25 at 13:03, Robert.Wultsch@asu.edu wrote: > Forigive the question but if have directv then why not get a directivo for 100 > from d*tv bucks and pay the 5 bucks a month for service.
