Render it, yes. He probably has his reply/new message set to plain text (as do I). I hate HTML email because the sender controls the font of the message I receive and emails get bloated by it. With Plain Text all messages arrive in my Inbox looking the same, so if you have poor eyesight, then all messages can be shown with a really big font. HTML makes you have to jury rig around the font chosen by the sender and messes up their format which can make messages harder to read.
