If I wanted to switch from Red Hat 8 to Gentoo,
how hard would that be?  Would I want to just
back up my data, wipe out the system and start
over?

I've gotten impatient with my inability to
install *anything* under Red Hat without hitting
some sort of dependency problem.  Would Gentoo
be any better?
