Ted has mentioned gstreamer several times. He uses it in his development for
gnomemeeting.

BTW, since I'm mentioning projects Ted helps with...

Ted used to help with sodipodi, but now works on Inkscape, a fork of
sodipodi.

Inkscape has a command line interface. Woohoo!  :)

Inkscape made it into debian as well.
