I think I have working hardware, at least the cables light up the idiot lights, but after that I am lost!! I need someone who will help me setup a 3 puter linux network for home usage by phone/internet (don't want/need someone to come and set it up). I am getting dsl next week since qworst has it cheap now. Wife and I want to share a networked dsl connection. I am putting a smoothwall router betwix the dsl modem and the 5 port switch. An airlink model aws105. The router is/will be a p120 1.5g 32megs ram. I want to use knoppix running from mirrored to hd and config saved if that is possible. boot: knoppix fromhd=scan myconfig=scan Is this possible? She refuses to learn (unless it is impossible to do so) to use an installed linux. I don't know what program to enter, nor how/what other than the ip of 192.168.0.1-4 where 1 is the router and 2-4 are the 'slaves??' after the switch. Her machine has debian from knoppix installed...unless she has messed it up somehow from the cd version. I could get it installed on at least other of the 2 other machines. I want to learn how to do this, not have somebody come over and set it up. I learn the hardway better than trying to watch someone that types 100 words/minute and miss out on over half of what they did. That is why I want either phone or pretty much step by step. I have read several 'books' that were written by people that know, but as usual they are up in the clouds in assuming stuff that we down here on earth don't see/understand what they are talking about. Oh, btw, qworst has a $6.99 no frills isp and 256k up/down dsl for $15.00/mo. $22 plus tax!! Not tooo bad. Not too fast either, but hey. Sorry it is long, but I am totally stumped right now in trying to get two machines to see each other thru the switch. i don't even know how to ping or what to do next. ===== Cyclists should expect and demand safe accommodation on our public roads, just as does every other user.
