Is the Notes server also the pop/imap server? Can you do pop and imap over ssl? > If the email gateway is placed in front of Lotus Notes server to send > and recieve email via pop would there be any foreseeable problems? > Basically they connect to the email gateway there password is checked > and if good then they can download email via pop or send email via > smtp. If pop/imap is handled by the Notes server you might need to do some userspace firewall manipulation. Essentially, you'd setup a second IP that gets forwarded directly to the Notes server and skips the GNU/Linux email gateway. You'd then leave that IP firewalled. When someone auths for pop/imap you'd kick off a script that allows their IP to talk to the Notes server on SMTP for whatever time you want the window to be. You might also be able to kick off a script to allow them to connect to the GNU/Linux SMTP server, but I don't know if that feature is available. > This email gateway is going to be for smtp messages sent to our domain > and we want to use it for users checking via pop and sending messages > via smtp. > > Can a Linux email gateway be prompted to only allow through email once > they have authenticated via pop or to prompt for a username and password > and it could use the same username and password they are using for pop. That is possible, but there has to be a tie-in between the two servers. I'm not sure that's available via a Notes server. ciao, der.hans -- # https://www.LuftHans.com/ http://www.AZOTO.org/ # Help Jerry Lewis stamp out M$...oops that's MDA - der.hans --------------------------------------------------- PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change you mail settings: http://lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss
