the long anticipated and announced new hard drive has arrived and I am scared! I just realized that I will have to install M$ on it because if I do not it will not recognize it on the other drive which will be set to slave. This means that I have to partition the disk with a mirosoft filesystem on it and I was wondering if I was thinking correctly? (if only the flash drive worked on Linux then I could junk M$) When is the next installfest? Maybe I should wait for one. Ohhhhh GOD! I am being overwhelmed. Okay, so I set the new drive to slave......... no that won't work. So I disconnect the old drive and install the new one. Then I boot the computer with M$ DOS 6.0 and run fdisk on the unformated drive. I figure that I can partition it into ten equal drives. Is four gigs big enough for Windows 98 SE? Is it big enough for Linux? Do I need to install DOS onto the drive to prepare it for Windows? I sure hope my Windows disk will work! It didn't work for a friend who had to repair his installation. I guess that it wasn't so overwhelming after all. But after I put Linux onto my system I was told to open midnight commander and to use it to copy the files from ~/ to then new home directory. Couldn't I just type in 'cp /mnt/hda/....../ ~'; shouldn't that work? Maybe I should just bring my box to a PLUG meeting!
