Now?  When did he last check?

The mail list archives for the original LVM project go back to February 
of 1999.  (See https://www.redhat.com/archives/linux-lvm/)

It was one of the "big new features" in the 2.4 kernel which was 
released 04-Jan-2001.

"So Linux does support it now."  Um... Yes, for several years.
