This is relatively easy to do. I pushed off moving to grub as long as I could. I don't know why but for some reason I was to comfortable with LILO I took the plunge and wonder why I ever liked LILO :) 1st option: multi boot: You should be able to partition the disk with separate partitions for each Distro. Once you start the install of the second one just make sure you leave the first alone. you should be able to share the swap partition though with no problems. After the final install, boot the one you are most comfortable with and setup your boot loader from there. I'd probably suggest installing your favorite distro last. 2nd Option: User Mode Linux (UML) advanced only: I haven't had much time to play with this yet but it lets you boot separate kernels on top of your current kernel. each kernel can be given virtual devices like HDs, network cards, and CDROMs. This would allow you to have your main distro installed and you would be able to boot another distro without actually rebooting the system. This does kind of require a custom installation method and several tweaks and it wouldn't help in getting you use to what really makes distributions different (install, hw detection, hw setup) On Fri, 2004-10-08 at 09:44 -0700, Josef Lowder wrote: > I've just built a new box on which I would like to put > at least three and possibly four Linux distros (and no M$). > > Any suggestions on how to proceed? > > Which should I install first? > > I think I'd prefer to use Lilo, unless there are important > advantages to a different boot loader. > > Tentatively, I plan to install Mandrake 10.1, Mepis, and Xandros > and I'd like to be able to use the same /home directory with all three > if that is possible. > > Joe > > --------------------------------------------------- > PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us > To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change you mail settings: > http://lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss -- Bill Warner --------------------------------------------------- PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change you mail settings: http://lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss
