it is likely that a directory called autosave is created by the
preferences of a program like openoffice or koffice to automatically
save documents in progress on a timed basis and these directories would
be cleaned up in normal housekeeping chores by the specific program when
files are closed.

it would also stand to reason that if you delete these directories, the
programs would create them next time you launch them. If you wish to see
which program creates them, delete the subdirectory and monitor your
$HOME directory after launching each program.

I am not overly concerned with these things but it is certainly a
prerogative that you enjoy, the consequences of deleting a folder titled
autosave, empty or not empty are likely to only affect your ability to
recover from a crash/killed process.
