pluggers,
I know some of you are experience web developers and
designers to this question is directed at you.

I'm wondering if there is such a thing as a javascript
that can redirect to one site or another depending on
whether the default one is actually working.

example

www.domain.com  -->  redirector

redirector tests to see if site1 is up if it is 
 then --> site 1
 else --> site 2 (backup site)

that way if my internet connection is down then my
visitors will be directed to my 'Server is down for
maintenance page" on my cox users site.

or maybe i'm just dreaming. 

I say javascript because my cox users page (i'm
assuming) doesn't support server side scripting like
php or whatever. I'm thinking a client side script
would be best

but if server side scripting is the only way to go
then I may be able to work with that too. I do have
access to php enabled free hosting with zend.
