I agree it's an issue. It's also a symptom of how PLUG works. A few of us
do almost everything for running PLUG. That has expanded a bit recently,
but there is still a limit to how much time a few people can devote.

I'd like to thank Alexander for recently stepping up and following through
with the InstallFests. Same to George for organizing west side topics and
Joseph for leading the devel project. Michael, at last Thursday's meeting,
suggested we have food and drink before the meetings *and* volunteered to
organize it. That's great initiative. That's how Free Software happens :).

Joseph, with the devel project, is intentionally trying to limit
volunteers to a couple of hours a week. Ideally, most of the volunteer
work would be like that. Heck, most would probably only be a few hours a
month.

Gabe recently gave us a whole bunch of books and Ubuntu CDs for giveaways
at the meetings even though he can't attend.

You, and many others, help a great deal by being active on the mailing
list. That's also a great way of volunteering, especially for those who
don't live in the Valley. Don't worry, I know that, even though I've been
fairly inactive on the list recently. Heck, my inability to follow the
list really drives home that helping people on list is a great way of
volunteering.

Now, how can people volunteer to help keep PLUG on the air? One way is to
help Alan with the web site. Another is to help Joseph on the devel
project. Maybe we can *a few* people can put in service checks to make
sure the DNS and web servers are up and running. An important aspect of
the service checks is to investigate outtages before reporting them.

In the case of the 'DNS' issue, the IP was completely off the air, so the
problem could've been diagnosed by anyone. Not dropping blame, just saying
a better bug report would've helped :).

Thanks for being concerned and reminding us that this affects our ability
to help others.
