isn't that a test version?
FC3 would be stable.

anyway since he's a computer guy he'll likely know how to research 
google. That seems to be the #1 tool for newbies.
I think he's choosing a great distro. I would make darn sure that he 
gets the best hardware for linux.
ex: nVidia for graphics (seems to be the most linux friendly)

i'm sure more people with chime in.
