I would attend more events if I did not have to fight traffic to get to the
east valley (commuter hell!) including Tempe.

Blurb to ignore...
It has been interesting to see how East Valley centric views are, being a
Phoenix native.  If something is west of 40th Street many people consider
the location to be in the west valley.  I live in South Flagstaff, I mean
Anthem, and people consider it the West Valley.  It is not, it is the north
valley.  I would say anything west of 51st Ave to be West Valley, anything
east of 48th Street to be East Valley, north of Olive/Dunlap to be North
Valley, and anything south of Broadway to be South Valley.  The farthest
east I would every be caught living is Tempe, forget Mesa, Gilbert, and
Chandler.  The only good thing in the east valley is the high traffic
volumes and mistimed lights.  It is nice to see venues and money shifting to
the west and north.
