I had a surfboard which died following a
nearby lightning strike.  When I took it
back to Cox -- apparently I had bought
it since there was no rental on my bill --
they gave me a Toshiba PCX2200 at no
charge!  I've had that for about two
years and it's worked nicely for me.
I don't track connection speeds and stuff
but it certainly does not seem to have
been holding me back.
