The PLUG East Side Meeting will be held Thursday, June 9th. What: PLUG East Side Meeting When: June 9th, 2005 @ 7:00pm Where: Sequoia Charter School in Mesa (See web site FAQ for directions) http://plug.phoenix.az.us/modules.php?op=modload&name=FAQ&file=index&myfaq=yes&id_cat=3&categories=PLUG+Meetings&parent_id=0#25 Topics (in no particular order): Blender Part 2. Intro to OpenOffice.org Impress. Intro to PGP, GPG and Keys This meeting will be a continuation of our "mini-presentations" with three interesting topics. Brian will continue with his demonstrations with Blender (http://www.blender3d.com), a 3D graphics creation and animation tool. Last month he showed us the basics of the user interface. This month he will build on that introduction. Joseph Sinclair, our Devel EEP Lead, will discuss the basics of Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) encryption. Things like public keys and private keys and why we should use them more. We wish to educate ourselves the point where we can have a full key signing party and build up a web of trust in the group. Joseph will start us down the path to encryption enlightenment. Background reading: The Key Signing Party HowTo: http://www.cryptnet.net/fdp/crypto/gpg-party.html A talk on DRM with good encryption concepts primer (the reset is really good too): http://www.craphound.com/msftdrm.txt I, Alan, will do a live creation of a presentation using OpenOffice.org Impress. It'll be basic but, if you have been scared to use it, I'll show you that you can defeat your fear! Assuming there is time, we may go beyond the basics with a few nice slide element animations. We can explore features together.
