New adventure: backup system onto secondary computer.

1- Turn on both systems.
2- make sure backup system eth0 is up (ifconfig eth0 up 10.10.10.3)
3- makesure ifconfig set it (ifconfig eth0)
4- ping loopback (ping 127.0.0.1)
5- ping eth0 (ping 10.10.10.3)
6- check other computer eth0 (10.10.10.2)
7- ping other computer (ping 10.10.10.2)
     response is  'eth0: command 0x3002did not complete! Status=0xffff'

What am I doing wrong? I am using a switch. (my crossover isn't long enough)
