It's displaying a message telling you apache is set up correctly and such. If you replace that index file with your own, you'll no longer get sent to the apache2-default subdir. You can get more information on setting up your own virtual hosts here : http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/vhosts/ Apache configuration makes a lot of sense once you get used to it, but like most things it can take a little getting used to.
