Rereading the orginal question and 'interpreting' it I think you are wanting to run from a 'hard drive' which happens to be the stick as a live cd? IF so, there used to be a 'poorman's install' way of doing that. IT still required the cdrom for a few seconds at bootup, then ran off a partition. IS that what you wanted? IF so, look/search for the current way to 'poor man's install' to a partition in this case the usb device. I might be wrong. A usb device is not that good of a hd to read/write to tho. short reuse life...1k times or so, and one of the directions is slow. Why not slice off a 4 gig partition and do a poor man's there on your much faster hd? Still you need the cd for the first few seconds plus at 'boot:' you need to enter fromhd=scan or fromhd=/dev/hdaX where X is the part it is on! Then the cdrom is freed up. Guess 5.0 still does that. *****/////*****/////***** Ed Culbertson/ke7feg Remember Katrina? For several days, only hams could get out, and talk to others dependably.
