No. I've configured computers on a network with no IP address whatsoever, and two network cards! But that's not a typical situation. For almost all needs, you *want* to have a distinct IP address. > And question #3 was: Until I get the hub hooked up, can I just > move the ethernet connection wire back and forth between the > two computers? A couple of times, I have done this very thing in times of great need. It's not at all convenient, but there's no reason why you can't. It will stink as even a short-term solution, and you'll want a hub. I came in late on this... are you in dire need of a hub and can't get one? -- Darrin Chandler | Phoenix BSD User Group | MetaBUG dwchandler@stilyagin.com | http://phxbug.org/ | http://metabug.org/ http://www.stilyagin.com/ | Daemons in the Desert | Global BUG Federation --------------------------------------------------- PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change you mail settings: http://lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss
