I have gotten en email from Lester Stein and Dennis McCormick of the Tucson Computer Society volunteering to come up to work this event. While I thought I was only acting as a contact to ask PLUG to participate, it seems my name is being used for other purposes as well. That being the case, I am asking that volunteers for this event confirm their availability and commitment to me so I can arrange for whatever passes we need to not have to pay the conference admission fee. Please see the message from Sandra Hart below for location, times, and the web site for the conference. ======================= Alexander, If you are coming and bringing your usual equipment we should be good. But if not, I will need to make other arrangements. Would you please send me (off list) a list of what you bring so I can do so? Please include any special setup info for plugging in and your UAT contact. ============= Due to discussion list limits, the attachments were omitted from the following ========== From: "Sandra M Hart" To: "'Sandra M Hart'" Date: Fri, 26 Dec 2008 19:30:14 -0700 Subject: AZacc - APCUG Regional Conference This message is sent to the Presidents, Coordinators and Board of Directors of the Arizona Alliance of Computer Clubs. This invitation was sent to all the User Groups that I could find a contact person for in Region 9. That's AZ, CO, NM and UT. I found that if our AZacc clubs were in the APCUG database, most of them had not been updated and the contact information was old so I am using the current AZacc contact list for this message. Bruce Jacobs delivered a flyer to you as he did the December tour. On that flyer is the conference website. Please inform your members that the address works without the www. Just type in phoenix.apcug.org. Hi Region 9, Have your heard the news ???? The Association of Personal Computer User Groups is sponsoring a weekend regional conference in Tempe Arizona on February 7 & 8, 2009. The conference website is at http://phoenix.apcug.org. Registration will be available through the website soon. Nearby hotels will be linked on the website, some with discounts. Look for an article in the next issue of Reports. Attached is the conference flyer. Please print it and post it where your members will see it. The conference will be held at the University of Advancing Technology (UAT) in Tempe, AZ. There is full wireless internet throughout the building. You can learn more about the location at http://www.uat.edu . It is reasonably close to the airport, very close to shopping, restaurants and hotels. The conference runs 9am – 5 pm with registration opening at 8am each morning. There will be a welcome bag and a vendor fair running concurrently with the conference. We have four speaker tracks planned: User Group Leadership, User Group Information, IT Pro Information and Vendors. We have at least a dozen speakers and vendors already lined up plus the national vendors that sponsor APCUG and a Linux Install fest. This will be a multiplatform conference! You can find the current list of APCUG sponsors on the www.apcug.net website under vendors. We are inviting the professional IT user groups and have a track for more technical speakers. There is room in the conference tracks for any speakers or vendors that might be interested from your area. The letter of introduction to your local vendor is attached if you know of a company that might be interested in participating or donating. The vendor fair tables require an APCUG sponsorship fee. The speaker time slots are 1 hour and 15 minutes each. If you've ever been to a conference before, you know we could use more volunteers, vendors, speakers and door prizes. We have a local planning committee working hard on this and would welcome anyone else who would like to participate by volunteering. Most of us are new to conference planning and it has taken us longer than anticipated. We hope that you will make plans to join us in Phoenix for a weekend of warm weather. Fuel prices have gone down…….how about carpooling? Everyone is welcome! We hope your club may join APCUG, but you do not need to be an APCUG member to attend. Just a few of the topics so far …….. Keynote by Jay Ferron on Windows 7, Social Media (Twitter, FaceBook), Speech Recognition, Q&A, Free Software, APCUG, Remote Presentations, User Group Meeting Ideas, Roxio, Digital Photography, Secure your home Network, Acquiring Presenters, Security Want more information on speaking or on sponsorship? Want to volunteer? Have questions, comments or suggestions? ………Just reply to this message. Many groups on the APCUG database have no website and no contact person listed. Please help us spread the word on this conference. We are going to have a great weekend ! Come Geek with us!
