Heh, I think those somebody somewheres were consumers that have basically stopped buying desktops and laptops, and most surveys say that they don't have plans to.  There still is corporate usage, and engineers/programmers/specialists will likely always have them.  But that's not a growth market, servicing it is likely to lead to being a minority platform.

Case in point, my kid's old school bought a bunch of iPads so that the kids could "learn the Apple interface."  They have no idea what OSX is.

My question is "What did you do to educate his school that there are other systems out there?"

We will only start winning this one user at a time.......it is incumbent on each of us to educate the educators.......and others!
