Ok, I decided this was more interesting than playing World of Warcraft tonight (sick, huh?). So here is what I did: - Downloaded the Kubuntu 9.04 32 bit .iso via a torrent & made a CD from it - Installed XP Home on a test box - Put the CD in the optical drive and selected to install within windows (wubi install) - Shortly after booting into kubuntu I was notified 4 updates were available - Verified that apt-get, etc and aptitude were both installed - Looked through the KDE menus and found Applications/System/Software Management (which showed a description of "KpackageKit") which also showed the updates. It also had Software Sources and add/remove functions. - Clicked on the notification and after entering my password watched it do the updates. In conclusion, perhaps the frustration was from someone expecting ubuntu components or perhaps the KDE 4+ folks just moved enough stuff he did not see what he was looking for. The fact remains, it all seems to work properly.
