Hi Folks.  I'm pleased to announce some exciting Nmap news:

It has been nearly 10 months (and 11 dev releases) since 4.76, the
last stable Nmap release.  And we've made many dramatic changes, so it
is time for a new stable version!  I've posted a release
candidate--4.90RC1--on the Nmap download page:

Please test it out, and let us know if you find any problems (bug
reporting instructions: http://nmap.org/book/man-bugs.html).  If this
gets some good testing and no show-stopper bugs are discovered, we
hope to do the major release next week.

Changes are too numerous to list here, but you can find them at
http://nmap.org/changelog.html.  There are more than 100 significant
changes in the five releases since the last one I sent to this list
(4.85BETA6).

Open Source Press has just released their German translation of Nmap
Network Scanning. I worked closely with Dinu Gherman, who did the
actual translating, and Dr. Markus Wirtz, who runs things there and
took a great interest in the book. It is currently featured on their

Open Source Press also contributed their German translation of the
Nmap Reference Guide so we could post it free online:

While 16 languages is great, we're always looking for new
translations! If you speak a language other than those 16 (or think

We're also always on the lookout for translators for the Zenmap
frontend. This is a substantially easier job than translating the
whole reference guide. And so far, we only have translations to
German, French, Hungarian, and Brazilian Portuguese. If you'd like to

Official Brazilian Portuguese and Korean translations of the whole
Nmap Network Scanning book are on the way.  The English version
