I don't know what xine packages are available for Ubuntu, but a quick search revealed a package called "libxine-extracodecs". Try installing that. If that doesn't work, you might want to reinstall amarok-xine afterwards. I don't know, because I got so sick of dealing with that kind of thing on OpenSUSE that I just compile xine by hand on non-source distributions. There might be an amarok-gstreamer package you could try.

I did that but the response is:
xine is unable to load the drivers (or some such nonsense)
