As it turned out, it was a software (Linux) RAID using XFS. It was a customized Linux distro used on a SoC Power PC platform.

I'm glad you got this fixed up, Eric.

This is why I don't use hardware raid, and I don't use raid 5.

Some time ago I managed to recover a 3-drive raid-5 array with 2
degraded drives. Not fun. That was software raid, fortunately.
